Cherry Blossom Giving Circle in Full Bloom!

April 6, 2010

No, this isn’t a post about the cherry blossom trees, which are bright and beautiful right about now.  It’s about our most recent Cherry Blossom Giving Circles event, held last week at the Association of Small Foundations offices featuring guest speakers Julie Koo of the DC Government Office on Asian & Pacific Islander Affairs, and Luis Vivaldi of the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region.  We had an intimate gathering of members and friends of the giving circle, learning about the needs in the local community and how the giving circle might make a difference.

We also learned about the next steps with the giving circle.  We’re in the process of developing a grantmaking process, complete with documents and standards.  We’re also reaching out to Asian American professional groups and other networks to encourage more friends to join the giving circle, and we’re connecting with other Asian American giving circles around the country to trade ideas and share tips. Look for another meeting coming up in a couple months, where we’ll kickoff the grantmaking process for the giving circle!

If you’re not a member yet, please consider joining and be part of making an impact for the Asian American community!
